Storyboard 3: Chosen People

As the population of the world grew once again, God knew from experience that simply asking people to continue in a loving relationship with Him and each other was not going to work. We humans kept messing it up. So God’s plan for saving men from their own sinfulness was put into motion.

Out of the entire world, God chose Abraham. Though Abraham was far from perfect, God promised to work through him and his descendants to provide a way of salvation for all mankind. Through four generations Abraham’s family continued to grow and God’s promise was passed down: from Abraham to Isaac; from Isaac to Jacob; from Jacob to his twelve sons. Then through an incredible adventure filled with favoritism, jealousy, treachery, dreams, suffering, and unexpected good fortune, God used Joseph, a descendant of Abraham, to bring the family out of famine in their homeland and into prosperity in Egypt.

God decided to connect with the world by choosing one man and his descendants. He set this family apart in a special way and promised that through them the entire world could be drawn back into a right relationship with Him. What man couldn’t do on his own, God would do. God proved once again that His faithfulness and love aren’t dependent on ours. God does what He promises, in spite of our failures and shortcomings. That is clearly seen in the people God chose to bless the world through. Perfectly imperfect people like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.
